[FACT] Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” was the first rap song to win Best Original Song at the Oscars. However, Eminem wasn’t present to pick up his award as he was busy watching cartoons with his daughter
Eminem is an American rapper, songwriter, music producer, and actor. Considered the person who popularized hip-hop music in America, he became a representative of the lower class of American society. Eminem is an artist who has greatly influenced many artists of different genres.
“Lose Yourself” is the theme song of the movie “8 Mile”, based on Eminem’s own life – growing up in a poor neighborhood on the outskirts of Detroit, day and night pursuing the dream of becoming a superstar—rap music star. The film unexpectedly received positive reactions from the audience, especially Eminem’s acting ability, which was highly appreciated.
“Lose Yourself” was the first rap song to win an Oscar for “Best Original Song,” but Eminem didn’t even attend the awards ceremony because he didn’t think he had a chance to win. Instead, he stayed home and fell asleep watching cartoons with his daughter.
In addition, Eminem did not attend the Oscars and did not perform the song because the station wanted him to edit the lyrics to be more “friendly” to the audience.
