More than a year after it was listed, chef and cookbook author Geraldine Gilliland sold her Malibu mountain property for $18 million. Father of Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving, Drederick Irving, paid $10.7 million for the home, which was $7.4 million less than the asking price.
Gilliland, who owns the Mexican restaurant Lula Cocina in Santa Monica, bought “Rancho Chiquita” more than 20 years ago and increased her land holdings.
The 40-acre estate has served as a wedding and party venue, a location for “The Voice” shooting, and a nonprofit dog sanctuary, among other uses. On 225 acres with views of the beach and mountains, the gated estate includes a main home in the hacienda style and a detached guesthouse.
Nearly 6,700 square feet of living space on two levels, Saltillo tile and hardwood flooring, arched entrances, and clerestory windows can be found in the main house, which is made of stucco and has a terracotta roof.
A gourmet kitchen with granite countertops, an eat-in island with wine storage, high-end stainless appliances, a walk-in pantry, and a breakfast nook are all included on the main floor. There is also a formal dining room.
The entire house’s bedrooms are divided into two distinct wings, one of which is occupied by a master retreat with an ocean view and a custom fireplace, a private patio, a sizable cedar-lined walk-in closet, and other amenities.
The other contains two main-level bedrooms with access to an outdoor palapa, a lower-level staff/guest suite with two bedrooms, an office, a living room, and a kitchenette. It also has a luxurious bathroom that opens to a terrace with a spa.
A 250-person lawn, a restaurant, a bar, a Jacuzzi, and several outdoor seating and meeting spots are all featured on the stunning grounds. A large motor court, event staging, a three-car garage, and at least 20 parking spaces are all accessible via a second secured service entrance.
