Formerly cordial friends who emerged as Dr. Dre’s apprentices, Snoop Dogg and Eminem’s friendship has worsened in recent months
It all started last year when Snoop made a subtle jab at the Detroit rapper, declaring that he wouldn’t rank among the Top 10 Rappers of All Time and giving Dre the credit for helping him become a superstar.
“[Dre] has probably put Eminem in the position where he would be considered one of the top 10 rappers ever,” he stated. “I don’t think so, but it seems like he’s one of the top 10 lyricists in the game and everything.” That’s simply a result of the fact that he is with Dr. Dre, who assisted him in locating the greatest Eminem available.”
“As far as squashing beef I’m used to people knocking me / But just not in my camp / And diplomatic as I’m tryin’ to be / Last thing I need is Snoop doggin’me / Man, Dogg, you was like a dаmn god to me / Meh, not really (haha) / I had dog backwards,” is how Eminem responded to Snoop’s remarks in his new song “Zeus,” which was released three weeks ago.
In an interview, he added that Snoop’s remarks astonished him. “If he’s claiming that Dre created the best version of me, then why would I object to that? Would Dre still be here? No, I wouldn’t, f**k,” he exclaimed. “The rappers he mentioned from the 90s — KRS One, Big Daddy Kane, G Rap — I’ve never said I could f**k with them.”
“I just saw you, what the f**k?” he continued. It caught me off guard. I think I could have ignored the entire tone and everything, but his final comment, “As far as music goes, I can live without that sh*t,” really got to me. You’re being impolite now. I was just unprepared for it.”
When questioned by an Eminem fan page on Instagram about whether he was being disrespectful, Snoop stoked the fires a few days ago by responding, “Pray I don’t answer that soft-аss sҺit.”
We haven’t had a decent rap feud in a long, but this one might go somewhere—that is, until Dre shows up and cuts them both off, of course.
